Last Weekend!

Today was a really calm day. I hung out with my host sister and her best friend. We watched a movie and went in the pool which was really fun and relaxing. Also, we cooked food and desserts for the party she was having tonight. Some more of her friends from school came over and we listened to music and went in the pool and we all had a really great time! Everyone was dancing and laughing and had so much fun! See everyone on Monday!

Hoy fue un día muy tranquilo. Me quedé con mi hermana de acogida y su mejor amiga. Vimos una película y fuimos a la piscina, lo que era muy divertido y relajante. También. cocinamos comida y postres para la fiesta que vamos a tener esta noche. Algunos de sus amigos de la escuela vinieron y escuchamos música y fuimos a la piscina y todos nos lo pasamos de maravilla! Todo el mundo estaba bailando y riendo y divertiendose mucho! Me emociono de ver a todos ustedes el lunes!

Last Day

Today was a great day, and also our last day all together as a group. We started off the day by meeting up at CENP, where we got together and reflected on the trip as a whole and shared our thoughts and feedback with the teachers. We made one last run to the chino store next to the school to stock up on snacks before going off on our excursion for the day. We headed over to a Street filled with all kinds or different stores. We spent a few hours of shopping, giving everyone a much appreciated chance to buy souvenirs, clothes, gifts, and more. Afterwards, we all went out to a restaurant for lunch with our teachers. The food was wonderful, and many of us tried Paella and virgin Sangria. After eating a huge lunch, we spent another hour shopping and eating gelato. We finished up the day by heading over to el Parque de Retiro, where we had a chance to relax and go paddle boating on the lake. Then we saw the Puerta de Alcalá, which is the first Arch of Triumph in Europe after the Fall of the Roman Empire, then followed by the one in Paris a few years after. After seeing it, we walked through the Alcalá Street, and in our way, we could see the famous Cibeles fountain and the actual Madrid city hall, former  Building of Communications.  Today was a fun, relaxing, food filled day, and a great way to spend our last day as a group.

Hoy fue un gran día, y fue el último día juntos. Empezamos el día en CENP, donde hablamos con nuestras profesores sobre el viaje. Fuimos al chino por última vez, para comprar dulces, bebidas, y palomitas. Luego, fuimos a una calle donde hay muchas tiendas diferentes. Fuimos de compras por unas horas, y compramos recuerdos, ropa, regalos, y más. Después, fuimos a un restaurante, donde comimos el almuerzo con los profesores. La comida fue increíble, y muchas personas comieron paella y sangría sin alcohol. Después de un almuerzo muy grande, fuimos de compras otra vez, y compramos helado. Al final, fuimos al Parque de Retiro, donde nos relajamos y paseamos en barco. Hoy fue un día muy divertido, relajante, y llena de comida. Era la mejor manera para terminar el viaje.

Paella!

Flamenco!

Today we learned all about flamenco!!! We had so much fun learning the dances, even if some of us are not very experienced dancers. We even had red flowers to put in our hair during the class!! It was much harder than we expected it to be and very tiring, so we were very happy to sit at and have tapas at a restaurant before seeing the professional flamenco show. The meal took longer than we expected (Julie had two plates of pasta!!) and we had to run to the theater so we wouldn't be late to the show!!! The show was amazing - my personal favorite part was the solo dance of the women wearing the purple polka dot dress. She was a wonderful dancer and she looked so happy to be on stage and it was so fun to watch her performance. We were so happy to see Sr. Bautista after the show and are very glad that his foot is feeling better. -Victoria

¡Hoy hemos aprendido mucho de flamenco! Ha sido muy divertido aprender los bailes, aunque algunas de nosotras no bailan muy bien.  Teníamos flores rojas para ponérnoslas en el pelo para la clase. Fue más difícil de lo que habíamos pensado y muy cansado, y por eso estábamos muy contentas de sentarnos en un restaurante antes del espectáculo de flamenco. La comida fue más larga de lo que habíamos esperado (Julie comió dos platos de pasta) y tuvimos que correr al teatro para no llegar tarde. El espectáculo fue increíble - mi parte favorita era la mujer del vestido morado. Estábamos muy contentas de ver al señor Bautista después del espectáculo.

The Royal Palace -El Palacio Real

Another fun day here in Madrid! As always, we started with classes at CENP with our wonderful teachers. We had an eventful day, first learning that Sr. Bautista was unable to join us because he had hurt his foot and had to go to the ER—we send him our well wishes, and hope that he´ll feel better tomorrow—as well as convincing Don Toni that we were speaking in Spanish while talking in English on the walk to school in the mornings. Today we visited the Royal Palace, exploring about twenty (out of thousands) rooms in one of the biggest palaces in Europe.  After our guided tour through the palace, where we saw the throne room, dining rooms, and the official banquet hall that seats around one hundred people, we took a short break for two of our most favorite things—sitting down, and shopping for souvenirs. We took a quick look into the Almudena Cathedral, a very impressive structure next to the Palacio Real. Afterwards, we had an hour to eat in the many cafes nearby the palace and the Opera House, and to shop for more souvenirs. On the train ride home, Sarah realized that a bird had "relieved itself" in her hair :(. We hurried home to shower, relax, and do our homework. It was another full day, and we are sorry that they are going by so fast.

Otro día muy divertido aquí en Madrid. Como siempre, empezamos con clases de CENP con nuestras profesores muy simpáticas. Nuestro día estuvo lleno de eventos. Primero, aprendimos que el Sr. Bautista no pudo ir con nosotros porque había hecho daño a su pie. Esperamos que se sienta mejor, y que pueda acompañarnos mañana. También, cuando estábamos caminando al colegio, convencimos a don Toni que estábamos hablando en español cuando, en realidad, estábamos hablando en ingles. Hoy, visitamos al Palacio Real, y exploramos 20 de los miles de cuartos de uno de los palacios más grandes de Europa. Después de nuestro tour del palacio, en donde vimos salones de tronos, salones para comer, y el salón de banquetes oficial del rey, hicimos un receso para hacer nuestras actividades favoritas: sentarnos, y comprar recuerdos. Entramos en la Catedral de la Almudena que está cerca del palacio. Era muy impresionante. Después, comimos en uno de los restaurantes cerca del palacio y fuimos de compras en las tiendas allí. En el metro, Sarah se dio cuenta de que tenia caca de pájaro en su pelo. Fuimos a las casas para ducharnos, relajarnos, y hacer los deberes. Era un día muy lleno, y sentimos mucho que los días pasen muy rápidamente.
