Toledo: First Cathedral of Spain

We had so much fun today in Toledo. Throughout the day, we continued to see many aspects of three different religions: Christianity, Judaism, and Islam, especially in the art and architecture of the cathedral. The cathedral in Toledo is the only cathedral to display the Jewish Star of David. My favorite part of the day was visiting the bakery that had the marzipan, which was delicious. They also had Fanta de limón which was very exciting because it is apparently impossible to find in the United States. While walking back from the cathedral, we stopped to speak to an old man who invited us into his house, which he has been preparing to turn into a museum! It was underground and was a residence for the Jews who lived in Toledo around the time of the Reconquista. He has spent 15 years excavating it and fixing it up, and we were all so impressed with his dedication, as well as his kindness for inviting us into his home. It was a truly remarkable and unforgettable experience and we are so grateful to have been able to see it.

Today I had a great time at Toledo. I saw many interesting things, the most notable being a man´s house in which he was excavating a cave in his basement. I found it fascinating that he had been working on turning his basement into an official museum for nearly 15 years. The cathedral was also gorgeous and was very interesting, especially since many of things we saw(such as relics) were things that we had learned about in 9th grade history. Hopefully Ms. Gajendragadkar isn´t too jealous... ;P But my all time favorite thing was when we stopped at a viewpoint overlooking the city. It is the most beautiful place I have ever been too, straight out of a fairy tale!!

Thank you,
Amber
