Atocha and El Reina Sofia

After a fantastic weekend with our host families and friends, we started Monday with our regular Spanish classes, but this time we learned the subjunctive mood. Afterwards, our trip leaders picked us up and took us by metro to the city neighborhood of Atocha, where we visited the modern art museum, Reina Sofía, and we had the chance to enjoy Picasso's famous Guernica painting. We all a had our own audio guides and we got to choose between Spanish and English languages to hear the explanations of very famous paintings and sculptures by Picasso, Dalí, Miró, Juan Gris, and many, many others. After this great time, we had a break to go to a restaurant, right across the museum, where the whole group sat together to enjoy a bite and chill for a while. When we were done, we walked to the Atocha train station, famous for an Al Qaeda terrorist attack back in 2004, on March 11th. Inside, we could enjoy the old station that dates from the late 1800's and has a rain forest with many plants from all over the world and turtles. Then we walked to the new side of the station that looks more like an airport, full of people, restaurants and stores. At the end of the day our trip leaders took us back home again.
